Creative and expressive therapies are used to foster awareness, encourage emotional growth, and enhance relationships with others. Therapeutically encouraging individuals to express themselves through therapeutic play, painting, music, or dance involves an understanding of the media beyond the scope of recreational play. Many therapists integrate creative arts, expressive arts, and therapeutic play activities that enhance relaxation as part of trauma intervention. Other relaxation techniques integrated into the creative, expressive, and play therapies may include guided imagery, visualization, meditation, yoga, and other methods of stress reduction and self-regulation. Therapeutic value of Manga & Anime The artistic devices and visual language used in anime and manga offer fans a clear, visual projection of the extreme emotions they sometimes feel within themselves. The creative expressions of extreme emotions inherent in the art and writing of anime and manga can be validating for fans, allowing them to better relate the experiences of the characters to their own real life experiences. Just about all anime and manga has at least one character with symptoms that could easily be diagnosed as a mental health condition such as ADHD, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, or social skills problem. However, in anime and manga, mental health conditions are often accompanied by unique strengths, which often make these individuals exceptional and allow them to develop extraordinary resiliency. |
