Inspire. Affirm. Motivate. Support.
The behavior that is often identified as "Emotional Eating" may more accurately be described as "Distress Eating".
Many people use food for comfort, stress relief, or to reward themselves, not just to satisfy physical hunger. Emotional eating does not fix emotional problems and usually makes you feel worse by evoking negative feelings such as guilt, for example. Emotional Eating workshops and support group offered by Monarch Therapeutic Services address the cognitive-behavioral cycle of distress eating. Our programs support participants in breaking the cycle of emotional eating / distress eating by helping them: ~ understand why they eat what they eat ~ recognize physical hunger ~ recognize external cues ~ recognize emotions attached to food choices ~ understand dynamics between food and -interpersonal relationships. Participants in our emotional eating workshops and support group learn and utilize mindfulness skills to increase healthy relationship with food during moments of heightened emotional states. By developing healthy coping skills and practicing control over cravings, participants learn to eat emotionally without shame, self-judgement, and self-loathing. |

Emotional Eating or Distress Eating often results in cycles of thoughts and feelings that lead to shame, self-loathing, self-judgment, and unhealthy physical conditions. The Cycle of
